Chichester Art Trail

The Trail is approaching!

Collection Day

Collection Day is one of the key dates in the calendar for any artists exhibiting at the Chichester Open Studios Art Trail.

This will not go ahead in 2020, but if you are an artist interested in joining us for 2021, you can read about what happens on this important Trail day,

What is Collection Day?

This is a watershed day in the Art Trail calendar…the Trail is fast approaching!

For 2020 Trail artists, Saturday 4th April, 10am – 3pm, has been set aside at Courtyard Studios in Chilgrove.

  • Pick up supplies to make your workplace a Trail Venue.
  • Your printed publicity materials are ready for you – Trail Guides, flyers and posters.
  • It is a social event for those who would like to stay awhile and meet other artists.

It is important that artists attend. If you are unable to collect, please arrange for someone to come on your behalf.

It is the chance to first set eyes upon the new Trail Guide and see yourself and your Venue in print. The Trail becomes real and there is a sense of the important part we all have to play in bringing it to life.

Collection Day

New artists will be supplied with the bright green Chichester Open Studios Art Trail signs to ensure visitors can locate your Venue. We have some on stakes and some that are tie on.

There is a numbered sign for your Venue plus left and right arrows to direct your visitors.

Before you come to collect, please review where you might usefully deploy signs and how many you need.

Previous Trail artists will already have signs. But if you do need any replacements, please note your requirements before you come to collect.

  • There is a limit to the number of signs that can be allocated to each Venue.
  • If there is another Trail artist close by, please liaise so that signage requirements are not duplicated.
  • Please be considerate when placing the Trail signs in your vicinity and do not mount them on traffic signs.
  • The signs are for display on the Art Trail days only, not before the event, and may need to be removed midweek and even in the evenings in some areas.
  • Please take down all signs immediately after the event.
  • Retain your signs and store safely for another year.

Printed Publicity Resources

Trail Guide
This is our key publicity tool. We supply the main outlets and our advertisers such as The Oxmarket, The Novium, Pallant House Gallery, Weald & Downland Museum, West Dean and libraries.

Distributing Trail Guides in your area.
This year’s 177 artists are, in themselves, a great resource when it comes to spreading the Trail Guides far and wide! We would like each artist to distribute at least 30 of these and we hope you will take more. If you run out, a stock will be held at the Oxmarket, or email info@chichesterarttrail.

Flyers and Posters
A5 flyers/posters with the important details of the Trail and the Preview Exhibition can be posted through doors and act as a call to action and reminder.

A4, A3 and a few A2 posters to pin up in prominent places.

See the Publicity page under the Join Us tab, for marketing ideas and digital marketing resources.

What you need to know

Your Art Trail Goody Bag

Containing the following bits and pieces that you will also need:

Venue Number Labels

To use on your Venue sign and direction signs as needed.

New Trail artists will have a clicker to tally up visitors. This is to fill in data on the Evaluation Form.

If you have previously been a Trail artist and really do need a new one, please ask.

Evaluation Form

We would like you to note your visitor numbers and sales for each day of the Trail. One artist per Venue can fill in the form and then submit the information online via the website immediately after the Trail. Notes on the Evaluation Form itself, give more information about what is required and how to submit the data.

Your agreement to the conditions of registration commits you to participating in this evaluation of the Art Trail. 100% return rate is necessary for us to make a meaningful assessment of the data and to ensure that you will be eligible for future Art Trails. All information is anonymised and when we have analysed the data, we will follow up with an informative Evaluation Report in a summer Newsletter.

The Evaluation Form provides us with information about the organisation and popularity of the Trail. We use the data to attract new artists and advertisers whose revenue and participation allow the Art Trail to thrive. We thank you for your cooperation with this endeavour.

The link to submit the data from your Evaluation Form will be live here from the evening of Sunday 10th May – Sunday 17th May 2020.

Out of consideration for our environment, we no longer use Art Trail balloons. We feel that the bright green Trail signs will be sufficient to alert visitors to our presence.
