Semi abstract large oil and acrylic paintings inspired by the South Downs and more recently, my garden. Ceramics inspired by natural forms.
My paintings in the past have been inspired by the South Downs and walking but more recently especially during lockdown, I have been concentrating on more immediate material - my garden. The seasons provide endless different colours and views. My interest in lines, trails, paths and maps never leave me. Colour excites my imagination and my paintings relate to a sense of place, whether imagined or real. Memories, experience and our imagination influence the way in which we perceive the world. I am drawn to make ceramics that also relate to the land. I use paper clay, and Ashraf Hanna clay to make cylindrical forms, poppy seed heads, pears and landscape pots.
