Paintings large and small on canvas and paper, framed and unframed. River Lavant, seascapes, abstract landscapes and Museum Series.
I look forward to welcoming you to my studio where you will be able to choose to view from a catalogue of over 100 paintings, drawings and prints. The subjects vary: landscapes, seascapes, semi-abstracts, but they all share some common goal. A painting has no practical purpose at all except to evoke feelings. Expectations of a painting are a deep personal matter. Perhaps it is safe to say that we all prefer art to lift us out of the ordinary, to bring us something special, to take us into another world. We invest our emotions into paintings. We give value to their images in so doing we need to be sure that the creators of these paintings can be trusted and can withstand our investigations. Catherine Barnes trained at Folkestone School of Art, Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and Goldsmiths College. Working at Kelpra Studio before exhibiting and teaching in London, in 1984 she moved to Winchester founding Juno Studio, appointed as Visiting Lecturer in Art History at University of Southampton, and Visiting Artist at Southampton City Art Gallery. Exhibiting since 1981 in London, in Europe: Paris, Antwerp, Cork, Dublin, Rotterdam and at the 2011 Florence Biennale.
