Hand thrown porcelain, functional and decorative pots, vases and bowls.
I make hand thrown functional and decorative ceramics using porcelain clay. Each piece is thrown as thinly as possible and then turned when leather hard to finish the form. The surface textures are created with brushed slips and oxides and glazes are applied by dipping or spraying. I make my glazes from raw materials and carry out multiple tests to achieve the right colours that work best with the decoration. The textures and colours I create are inspired by patterns in nature, the sky and the sea. I studied 3D Design: Ceramics at Bath Academy of Art in 1980 and I work in my garden studio.
