Hand built, moulded and thrown ceramics in various clays. Unique, traditionally and raku fired works, for the home and garden.
Ceramics is an exciting medium and inspiration comes from many sources. I particularly like its unpredictability, each vessel I make is a ‘surprise me' because invariably they do, as most of my work is still an experiment of processes. My work falls into three distinct types. There are vessels made from raku fired paper clay, brightly coloured and exotic; my 'triffids'. There are also larger vessels made for the outdoors, coloured with oxides, strong and robust, which take their influence from ancient Japanese ceramics. The last group, made from porcelain, have evolved from functional ware to more decorative pieces, cast in slip and highly patterned, some more recently using over glaze techniques. My newest obsession is throwing and texture combined – another path to follow to see where it leads.
