Personal Statement

I hand-spin locally-sourced Alpaca fleece, and wool from different British sheep breeds. These include Bluefaced Leicester, Hebridean, Ryeland and rare-breed sheep such as Portland. I hand-dye or paint many of my yarns including wool, as well as lace-weight mohair and silk. I also design my own knitting patterns and use them to hand-knit individual shawls and scarves . I am currently spinning wool from a Shetland sheep fleece, some Suri Alpaca tops and designing mitten patterns utilising Japanese knitting stitches. In addition, I design and create unique tactile fabric rugs.
I am a self-taught watercolour artist, inspired to paint by the beautiful Roses, Dahlias, Peonies and other flowers growing in my garden. At present I am sketching the Sunflowers and Orchid Daffodils that grew this year. I use these sketches for my watercolour paintings and also to create designs that I hand-paint on glassware such as vases and mirrors. This involves utilising specialist glass paints.
I have my own purpose-built workshop to frame my work using professional equipment including a Morso Guillotine and Underpinner. I regularly participate in the Chichester Art Trail Open Studios and I am happy to undertake commissions. My website displays examples of my work.
