Personal Statement
As a child I loved stones, jewellery and plant-life. I studied art and Education at Bishop Otter College completing a B Ed in 1975. My main focus was sculpture when I first worked in metals. Painting was my second discipline. In 1976 I started working in silver but my young family took precedence. In 2001 I completed the City and Guilds Jewellery Making and Design course at Northbrook College, studying under Clara Vichi and Lisa Hamilton. My designs may develop a theme but pieces are never identical. I sometimes work with found materials and semi-precious stones adding colour and texture to my pieces which, like my paintings, are often inspired by plants. I frequently combine silver with gold and love exploring new techniques. I have completed other short courses at the Cornwall School of Jewellery and at West Dean where I recharged my love of painting, working in oils, acrylics, watercolour and mixed media. I am registered with the London Assay Office and the Association for Contemporary Jewellery. I have sold my work predominantly through art trails in the South of England since 2003 and completed many commissions in both jewellery and painting.
