Personal Statement
I have been a potter since about 1978 and am interested in all aspects of ceramics especially functional pots that can be used every day. Having started out in Lambeth I have recently moved to Middleton on Sea where I am lucky enough to have a workshop set up at the side of my house. Here I make and fire earthenware pots in my electric kiln. These are low fired pots made from locally dug clay. I make my own slips (liquid clays) for decorating pots using clay from my garden and some washed up on the beach. I also make pots for the Weald and Downland Museum in historic contexts. Sometimes I work with stoneware, firing the pots in a wood fired kiln at a friends house. I have recently acquired a new raku kiln. Raku firings are completely different with more immediate results.
