Personal Statement

I am a self taught artist with a passion for animals, particularly wildlife and a special interest in big cats. The inspiration for my paintings comes from numerous safaris in Africa and visits to conservation projects in this country.

I paint quite large, mostly in acrylic, but also use pencil or pastel. Depending on my subject I love to paint in a realistic, but contemporary manner whilst sometimes I love to explore colour and texture (and have some fun) - some animals really lend themselves to this.

Sculpture is also becoming an important part of my creative life - I have had work cast in bronze and am exploring more and more mediums for 3d effect. Again animals are my focus.

I have had work accepted for the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year in the Mall Galleries, London, on 3 occasions, and have also received numerous awards in London and elsewhere. I have paintings in collections in Australia, New Zealand, USA and Switzerland.

I hope my viewer feels the intimate presence of these incredible creatures and hope too that they will help in fight to aid their survival.
