Mixed media mosaic artwork using glass & ceramic tiles, stained glass & recycled china. Oil or acrylic paintings based on nature and the local landscape.
Having always enjoyed art and the countryside these interests unite in my paintings, illustrations and mosaic work. I studied Natural History Illustration at Bournemouth College of Art & Design in the 90’s and more recently have taken many short courses with professional mosaicists and artists. The natural world remains my main source of inspiration and I try to capture some essence of its beauty. I work mainly in oil paint enjoying the feel of thick paint under the brush and creating textural artwork. Colour and light play a big part in my work being reflective of the seasons and ever-changing mood of the landscape. My mixed media mosaics are created using glass and ceramic tiles, stained glass pieces, recycled china and found objects. I enjoy beachcombing for useful shells, stones and sea glass. The larger mosaic pieces are often framed whilst smaller pieces can be on wood or slate. I prefer to use recycled materials if possible as I have a strong interest in environmental issues. This is my first year on the Chichester Art Trail and I look forward to contributing.
