Personal Statement

Lou works from her studio in Fishbourne, near Chichester to create figurative pieces from 8cm in height (in hallmarked silver, bronze and lead) to 3m tall – in bronze or aluminium resin. Lou’s original inspiration came from Giacometti and then she was drawn to explore the relationship of her work with various environments including floating on water.
B Ed Hons. in Art and Education at University of Sussex (Bishop Otter) in the 70s under Alan Saunders and Glynis Beecroft.
Became a full time sculptor in 2005 after working for the BBC and as a Teacher. Chalk Gallery Lewes for 4 years. Gardens such as Pashley Manor, Michelham Priory and Borde Hill. St Richard’s Hospital Roman Courtyard, Chichester. Festivals along South coast – from Eastbourne –Brighton- Adur – Arundel – Chichester – Emsworth.
2011 – GOLD MEDAL at HAMPTON COURT FLOWER SHOW: created a giant chalk stack embued with heads of Hecate for Keat’s garden.
Selected for MALL GALLERIES LONDON: - ING Discerning Eye, 2009; Threadneedle Prize show 2012. GOOD FIGURES at the Mall Galleries and Jerwood Gridshell 2015. TOWNER EASTBOURNE 2015. ICON and BIJOU at Candida Stevens Fine Art and Whithurst Place 2016. Recently been very busy with private commissions.
Work in New York, Italy, Rome, and France.
