Thrown and handbuit work in stoneware, porcelain and raku. Japanese traditions and the Sussex landscape inspire contemporary works.
My well established pottery studio is in a rural setting near Rowland's Castle, where I make functional pots and individual ceramics. Inspired by traditional English Country pottery along with the ceramics of the East my functional work is made to be appreciated and used in domestic settings. In my individual work I find the Raku technique a dynamic and creative process in which the heat, fire and activity never fail to create short bursts of excitement and tension. It is a traditional method that I have applied to contemporary forms allowing a transition of cultures, time and form. As a longstanding tutor at West Dean College I enjoy the mix of running a pottery studio and teaching, finding it provides a balanced and practical approach to my life as a potter. My work has been shown in Galleries and Museums around the country and is collections worldwide.
