Hand thrown porcelain, functional and decorative bowls, pots and vases.
I make hand thrown, functional and decorative vessels using porcelain clay. It is important to me that my pots are visually pleasing forms that invite physical touch and handling. The textures and colours I create are inspired by patterns in nature
and the ocean.
Each piece is thrown as thinly as possible on a potters wheel. When leather hard the porcelain is turned to finish the form. The surface texture is created with brushed slips and glazes are applied by dipping. I make my glazes from raw materials and carry out multiple tests to achieve the right colour and translucency that work best with the decoration.
I studied 3D Design: Ceramics at Bath Academy of Art in 1980. I fit my passion for making pots around my part-time work as a primary teacher in Chichester.
