Textiles, print making, mixed media, covered books.
Helen combines her love of drawing with textiles to explore questions of identity and human experience. Images and lines in her work are informed by drawings of her surroundings, stories of every-day-life, tales of human relations and connections between communities and cultures. Her work combines drawing, printmaking and textiles. She was awarded a Scholarship by the Embroiderers’ Guild in 2015 and continues to work with the Guild to promote stitch as an art form. In 2018 Helen was artist in residence at Chichester Festival Theatre where she produced work in response to the theatre and its’ community. She recently returned from travelling around Gujarat in Northern India which has further inspired her practice and curiosity around art and community. She is planning to return to India when circumstances allow, guiding textile tours and continuing to inform her research around textiles. Helen is involved in a number of community art projects. ‘Sharing studio space with Pat...although tricky at the moment…has still been great as we bounce ideas off each other and find things out about our work which we didn’t think we knew!’
