Free Machine Embroidery. Using calico or water soluble as a base.
I started my sewing life with creating patchwork quilts, cushions, bags and anything else that suited the patchwork techniques. I loved the order and structure of making them. I then started looking at the crazy patchwork technique and found that the freedom of using different textured fabrics directed me away from the more traditional method. And then of course all the beautiful stitches with beads and buttons on top it all looked so rich. I then went on to learn hand stitching which I really enjoyed. I thought it couldn't get any better than this. Then I went to an Embroidery show and came across the most beautiful landscape pictures all created on the sewing machine. A subsequent workshop with Linda Miller taught me how to create pictures with my sewing machine and I haven't looked back. My current work is inspired by a holiday in the US, harbours, beaches and the countryside in the UK.
