Personal Statement

I am a Seascape Artist gaining inspiration from our local coast. I relish in spending hours at the beach, absorbing the ever-changing light, how it casts its shadows one moment, then the sun peeps through spreading dappled sparkles and patterns over the surface of the water. I try to capture this in my work. I am fascinated by dramatic skies and this plays a big role in my paintings. I have honed my skills through hard work and determination to achieve my own distinct style. I paint from my mind, imagination and soul. I endeavour to capture drama and atmosphere to draw the viewer into the painting as if they were there. My approach of style and painting has evolved and aims to represent emotion, focusing on my personal interpretation and feelings for the subject. As I paint my work comes alive during its evolving development. Initially I have no vision, I never know what will happen until its just becomes. I like to experiment using different mediums to achieve interesting marks and textures. The main thing that excites me about painting is the constant journey of learning and improving my skills and there’s still so much to discover!
