Expressive landscape, still life, figurative adaptations in oil, investigating composition, colour and light processed through printing, brush and drawing techniques.
I grew up in Surrey and West Sussex, studied art and travelled. I finally settled in Birmingham in 2000, maintaining a studio in Bosham. I studied Fine Art at Cranleigh, Wimbledon and Exeter, focussing on drawing, printing and painting and worked as a Secondary school art teacher for 15 years. “Simplicity of composition, colour and interpretation are key elements of my work. A piece of artwork, or expression, should invite the attention of the viewer, to assess and enjoy the balance and creative choice of the artist.” My experience of teaching art has allowed me to investigate a broad range of techniques and skills building upon my chosen printing/painting disciplines from my formative years. I work fast and rarely revisit, aiming to capture an interpretation of the moment, discussion and memory. I am exhibiting a range of landscape, still life, figurative and abstract adaptations from my experiences of Chichester Harbour and Scotland investigating composition, colour and light processed with expressive roller, brush work and drawing techniques. I work between Birmingham and from a studio in the village of Bosham, West Sussex. I am open to commission and relish working in the moment to interpret a brief. I can work on all scales working on canvas, board or paper.
